A Fashion Show, $5000 Reward and Trip to New York Fashion Week

Jim Rohn once said, "Either you run the day or the day runs you". Meaning, have you planned out the day to make the most of your time or are you allowing things throughout the day to just happen to you. As an entrepreneur no one's there to push you, so you have to learn to push yourself. As I looked over my business plan I realized that I had not scheduled a fashion show this year and one of my goals was to do at least 2 fashion shows a year. As I came upon Jim Rohn's quote, I realized that I had so many excuses for why I had not scheduled a fashion show but the real reason was I had not put it in the plan for this year and scheduled the time to execute it.  I was allowing the days to run me. It was time to take action! The fashion show was 2 1/2 weeks away and we had no clothes, and I wanted to make a few additional statement pieces for the show. Time management would be crucial to pulling this off.  In addition to making the outfits and jewelry, I would need to balance getting our regular orders out, supplying our wholesalers, taking care of my two little ones, making time for my honey and creating looks that were dynamic enough to win the competition. We created a mood board which helped us tremendously with getting the ideas flowing while still creating a cohesive collection.

We decided on a Afro/Asian vibe with hues of blue, white, tan and gray. Our colorful pieces would be the pop of color for each ensemble. We were sewing until the day of the competition due to a few last minute changes which proved worth it. The day of the fashion show we did not disappoint we had Kim Aitch of "Be Camera Ready" on hair, Shanita of "Makeup by Nitad" doing makeup, assistant stylist Chelsea of Soyinimoon and of course myself designer Ellana Turner of Cloth and Cord making clothes, jewelry and accessories. Our models Cherry, Pamela, Paige and ReRe walked out to Juice Ycee ft Maleek Berry and killed it. In the end we won the competition, $5000 dollars and we're so excited about the trip to New York Fashion Week.  We' are so proud of our team and this accomplishment!

“Time is a created thing. To say 'I don't have time,' is like saying, 'I don't want to.”
